Nike’s Zoom VaporFly 4%, a shoe that played a role in the sub-two hour marathon BREAKING2 initiative, has been pegged by Nike to be the fastest racing shoe ever. Credit that to Kenyan marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge, who finished Nike’s 2017 BREAKING2 race in just over two hours. Kipchoge continues his quest to finish a marathon in under 2 hours, and his shoe of choice is a custom version of the Vaporfly Elite in bright red, featuring a more flexible carbon fiber plate modified for his specific performance needs. Nike created a limited 99-pair run of the sneaker, save for some design cues personal to Kipchoge. This VaporFly was made exclusively available for Nike+ members in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom, with a clause that consumers would need to complete a ‘Just Do It Sunday’ run via the Nike Run Club app.
