Examining early 2023’s trendiest sneaker.

New year, new trends in sneakers. We’re only a month into 2023, but there is already considerable buzz around yet another former performance shoe that’s been repackaged as a lifestyle silhouette in the present day: the Nike Vomero 5. Originally debuted in 2010, the Vomero 5 joins models like the New Balance 2002R, in bringing a vintage running shoe aesthetic to contemporary footwear.
The Vomero 5’s latest comeback marks the third time the shoe has made the rounds following its debut over a decade ago. In 2018, A COLD WALL* revived the model as part of a collaboration that added a protruding heel counter to the back of the shoe that gave it a more modern look. The Vomero 5 popped up again in 2019 after none other than Drake was seen wearing a pair with blacked-out details mixed with orange accenting. Now, it seems as though the Vomero 5 is back as part of a more focused rollout by Nike following the release of its “Oatmeal” colorway in September 2022.
Judging by the positive response the Vomero 5 has been receiving, we don’t think the shoe will be going anywhere anytime soon. Which means if you’re thinking about adding it to your collection, now would be a good time to do so. There are already some great Vomero 5 colorways out there, and with more expected to be released in the near future, there should be nothing holding you back from taking this classic running shoe for a spin.
Here’s a rundown of some of the best Nike Vomero 5s available now at Stadium Goods.
The Nike Vomero 5 has gained momentum in the culture for a few reasons, chief among them being the amount of versatile colorways it's been offered in following its reintroduction last fall. If you’re looking for an easy, wearable colorway to ease into the Vomero waters, we suggest checking out the “Cobblestone.”
Women’s Nike Vomero 5 “Oatmeal”
Another reason why the Nike Vomero 5 is becoming an “it” shoe in the culture is because it’s being offered in women’s sizes, which means more people can wear the shoe. Everyone wins. The Women’s Nike Vomero 5 “Oatmeal,” with its aged details and timeless color scheme, is a great addition to any sneaker collection.
Noticing a theme? Every Nike Vomero 5 that’s been released as part of the shoe’s most recent comeback has been high in versatility. That theory is proven on the Vomero 5’s “Iron Ore” colorway.
Another versatile, go-anywhere, do-anything Nike Vomero 5 that should be on your radar if you’re looking to dip your toes in the shoe’s waters is the “Anthracite” colorway. Done up in a monochromatic very dark grey design, the “Anthracite” is an easy shoe to wear no matter what your style is.
A COLD WALL* x Nike Vomero 5 “White”
The Nike Vomero 5 is the most progressive version of the Vomero model. It was the first Vomero to feature Nike’s signature Zoom Air cushioning technology. It was also equipped with Nike+ capabilities, which linked to your iPod (remember those?) which allowed you to track your steps and other health data. The Vomero 5 was also the first of the Vomero line to have its appearance radically modified when A COLD WALL* added an exaggerated heel counter to its design. What we’re trying to say is, the Vomero 5 was clearly a shoe Nike thought highly of enough to invest in, so you should, too.
