Early Look at the April Skateboards x Nike SB Dunk Low

A detailed look at the anticipated SB Dunk before it drops in November, along with a little background on April.

After collaborations with Ben & Jerry’s, the Grateful Dead, and Travis Scott brought the Nike SB Dunk to the mainstream in 2020, the venerable skate shoe has been getting back to its roots of late. Recent collaborations with skate companies such as April Skateboards, who have ties to another great new SB Dunk colorway, are reinvigorating the sneaker’s core fanbase with sneakers made for skateboarding. The way, quite frankly, many think it should have always been for the SB Dunk.

Getting back to the April Skateboards x Nike SB Dunk, the show was designed by Shane O’Neill, founder of the brand and longtime Nike SB skater himself. In addition to O’Neill, April Skateboards counts Yuto Horigome as its star attraction. After winning the first-ever Olympic men’s street event at the 2020 Summer Olympics, Yuto recently released a Nike SB Dunk collaboration of his own, complete with his signature branding.

Back in 2020, O’Neill and Nike SB created the Nike SB Shane, a pared down skate shoe modeled after Nike SB teammate Stefan Janoski’s legendary Nike SB Janoski. The shoe’s almost minimalist look stands out in contrast to the look of April Skateboards’ debut SB Dunk, which opts for a more attention-seeking design with various materials including mesh, suede, and leather, and unique metallic silver Swooshes on the sides.
