Getting to Know the Air Jordan 1 Zoom Comfort

How the Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT differs from the standard Air Jordan 1.

Matt DeSciora

Interested in the Air Jordan 1 High Zoom CMFT but not sure how it differs from a standard Air Jordan 1? Today you’ll learn all about the differences.

There’s an intriguing new Air Jordan 1 silhouette on the scene and it’s already drawn attention from one of Jordan’s biggest collaborators, Aleali May. The celebrity stylist put her luxury-meets-street spin on the model in April and, expectedly, the shoe’s popularity skyrocketed soon thereafter.

The design in question is the Air Jordan 1 High Zoom CMFT, a modern take on Michael Jordan’s iconic first signature shoe that features better comfort and more cushioning than the OG Jordan 1. And if you haven't figured it out by now “CMFT” stands for “comfort.”

In addition to May’s “Califia” colorway, there have been a plethora of fresh takes on the Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT. But the alternate Jordan 1’s design may be a bit confusing to unpack if you’re not familiar with its various modifications when compared to the original Air Jordan 1.

Consider what you’re about to read a quick crash course on some of our favorite colorways of the Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT, and everything else you should know about the contemporary variation of the greatest sneaker of all-time.

Air Jordan 1 High Zoom “Fearless”

Debuting in Winter 2019, the Air Jordan 1 High Zoom “Fearless” was the first release of the Air Jordan 1 Zoom. As its name implies, the biggest difference between this shoe and the standard Air Jordan 1 is the addition of Zoom Air cushioning. The Jordan 1 Zoom has a full-length Zoom unit in the sole for softer, more responsive cushioning. The traditional Jordan 1 only has a smaller heel Air unit. Jordan Brand made sure to grab attention with its new update to the Jordan 1 with this flashy iridescent-reflective colorway.

Air Jordan 1 High Zoom “Zen Green”

Perhaps the most popular Jordan 1 Zoom is this “Zen Green” colorway that dropped in 2020, which reimagines the Jordan 1 in suede. It’s worth mentioning that the metallic silver leather Swoosh on the sides of the “Zen Green” is more in the way of the Swoosh branding found on the original Jordan 1. Many Zoom CMFT colorways feature a cut-out Swoosh, instead.

Women’s Air Jordan 1 High Zoom CMFT “Sisterhood”

The first-ever Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT released was this women’s exclusive Jordan 1 High Zoom “Sisterhood” that released in October 2020. Additional padding and exposed foam around the collar and a slightly deconstructed design separate the Zoom CMFT from its Zoom predecessor. The extra padding is what makes the “Sisterhood” fall under the “Comfort” product lineage.

Aleali May x Air Jordan 1 High Zoom CMFT “Califia”

As we touched on in the introduction, the most popular Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT is stylist Aleali May’s “Califia” colorway. Here, a leather tongue and collar are new to the Zoom CMFT, as is the hairy chenille patch that replaces the “Wings” on the collar.

Air Jordan 1 High Zoom CMFT “London”

Eerily reminiscent of the original Air Jordan 1 High ‘85 “Neutral Grey” and, if you want to stretch the comparisons even further, the Off-White x Air Jordan 1 High “White” that Abloh dropped exclusively in Europe in 2018, the Jordan 1 High Zoom CMFT “London” happens to be the first country-exclusive Zoom CMFT colorway. Materials like leather, mesh, and exposed foam on the tongue highlight the look.

Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT “Chile Red”

If you’re looking for one of the more vibrant Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT colorways, the “Chile Red” is your move. A combination of fiery orange and yellow suede panels pop against the black canvas base. The “Chile Red” is exactly why we’re loving the Zoom CMFT—the shoe’s contemporary style allows Jordan Brand to get extra creative with its design.

Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT “Black/Monarch”

Another unique look for the Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT is the “Black/Monarch,” an autumnal colorway that highlights the model’s versatility when dressed in earth tones. Like all Zoom CMFT editions, the “Black/Monarch” has exposed foam around the collar and tongue that jives with today’s “do-it-yourself” trends and a new “Zoom Air” product tag on the tongue in lieu of the original “Nike Air” tongue tag of the original Jordan 1.

Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT “Tropical Twist”

For all of your summer vibes, there’s the Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT “Tropical Twist.” As it nicknames suggests, this casual number evokes a chilled out mood with soothing lavender and teal-colored suede panels against a white canvas base.
